Eagles stumble at Cowboys Stadium in round two

In round two of the 5A playoffs, the Eagles lost to Mesquite John Horn Jaguars at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

Early in the first quarter, the Jaguars jumped to a 7-3 lead. After a touchdown following fumble recovery by Corey Manges  in the second quarter, the Eagles offense managed 12 points, but remained behind after the defense allowed the Jaguars 13 points.  

In the third quarter, Jaguars quarterback Collin Strahan scored two touchdowns to the Eagles one touchdown. The Jaguars took the lead in the third quarter, but the Eagles fought until the final buzzer. As the Eagles took field in the fourth quarter, the Jaguar defense eliminated the Eagles chance of scoring, where the Jaguars scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to end the game.

The Eagles lost to the Mesquite J. Horn with the final score of 44-22.  The Eagles season ended with a 9-3 record.

Key players of the game were Treyvon Green with one touchdown and 55 rushing yards, Logan Brown with one touchdown and 96 receiving yards, Corey Manges with one touchdown and 3 receiving yards, Chris Osborn with 52 receiving yards and Colton Kalmus with two thrown touchdowns and 22 completions of 41 attempted passes.

Round One Victory for the Eagles

The Eagles advanced to round one of the 5A- Area Playoffs were they competed against the Jesuit Rangers at the SMU Mustang Stadium.

            The Eagles offense started the game off good in the first quarter by placing 14 points on the scoreboard to the Rangers 7. The Rangers offense and defense took a temporary lead where in the second quarter the Eagles and Rangers put 7 points each on the scoreboard.

            The Eagles fought until the end were the Eagles offense put 14 points on the scoreboard again, to the Rangers zero. When the Eagles entered the fourth quarter with 35 points, the Rangers offense moved in for a final chance where they scored two touchdowns and two successful field goals, where the Eagles didn’t score in the final quarter, but the Eagles prior touchdowns outnumbered the Rangers.

            The Rowlett Eagles defeated the Jesuit Rangers with a final score of 35-28. The Eagles will advance to round two of the playoffs Friday night at 9PM at the Cowboys Stadium and play the Jaguars of Mesquite Horn High School.

            Key players of the round one game was Treyvon Green with two touchdowns and 147 rushing yards, Chris Osborn one touchdown and 67 receiving yards, Logan Brown with two touchdowns and 198 receiving yards, Colton Kalmus 20 of 25 completed passes, and Jalen Rhodes with 44 receiving yards.

Eagles struggle against new district opponent

The Eagles came out prepared for a fight against the district tied McKinney Boyd Broncos. The results of this game determine the district champion.

The Eagles and Broncos clashed hard in the first quarter and they both put seven points on the scoreboard. The Broncos offense drove hard down the field in the second quarter scoring a touchdown and three point conversion to the Eagles one touchdown.

After half time, the Broncos created a gap by scoring 21 points in the third quarter.  The Eagles scored one touchdown and a field goal in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles defense held the Broncos to one field goal attempt.  The final score was 41-17, the second defeat for the Varsity Eagles.

Key players of the game were Seniors Treyvon Green with 80 rushing yards, Chris Osborne with 23 receiving yards, and Chase Thrasher with nine receiving yards.  The alternate quarterback Colton Kalmus completed 14 of 27 attempted passes.
